Styling tips: Colour with Colour or Colour with Neutrals?
A little bit about how Amelia McFarlane from Colour Me In Styling and I came to create and produce a range of bright, bold, colourful clutches. We also look at how they work with our contrasting styles and wardrobes.
I love a creative collaboration! There is something very energising about throwing ideas around with another creative person. Some collaborations fit better than others and this one just rolled out so seamlessly, it really was a pleasure to work alongside Amelia to create a colour pop range of suede clutches.
Amelia works as a stylist and consultant. One part of her job is to take a 'stocktake' if you like of a client's wardrobe, curate it and then add pieces to compliment. She approached me when she found it hard to find bright, colour block accessories to inject colour into or compliment a client's closet.
I admired Amelia's fun but still very stylish sense of style, presenting often in patterns, prints, colour & accessories, somehow it all worked and she always looked polished. I was interested to explore colour with her and see how it could work with both her style and my much more neutral, minimalistic sense of style, so we started talking colours!
We decided on 4 colours, cobalt, tangerine, cerise & emerald. We found some 'deadstock' fashion fabrics to line the clutches and discussed the shape we wanted. Big enough to fit in all you needed for a day/night out but not too big to be considered bulky if you just had phone & keys to carry. We wanted a slightly rounded bottom, so when you carry her, she sits ever so perfectly in the palm of your hand.
Producing locally in Sydney meant that from concept to collection was a very short turn around, I sourced premium suede from Spain and our makers got to making. A gold zip was decided would work best with all 4 colours and we complimented that choice with the KARMME inside label embossed in gold too.
So how do they work with a neutral wardrobe and a colourful wardrobe?
We love them as either a bold colour pop against a neutral outfit or a complimentary piece accompanying a playful printed or patterned piece.
When you feel like you want to brighten your mood or those around you just a bit, we think these are the perfect way. It's a bit like a swipe of red lipstick to head out into the world.
We have been thrilled by the feedback so far on this collection.
We hope you enjoyed reading a little more into how this collaboration came to be and seeing how some colour can work with everyone's wardrobe.
